Or a movie on Thursday ?

Thu, 20 Oct, 7:30 pm
IRAN (Is Not The Problem)
English, 79 mins
Dir: Aaron Newman

SYNOPSIS: The documentary is a response to the failure of the American mass media to provide the public with relevant and accurate information about the standoff between the US and Iran, as happened before with the lead up to the invasion of Iraq.

We have heard that Iran is a nuclear menace in defiance of the international community, bent on "wiping Israel off the map", supporting terrorism, and unwilling to negotiate.

This documentary disputes these claims as they are presented to us and puts them in the context of present and historical US imperialism and hypocrisy with respect to Iran. It looks at the struggle for democracy inside Iran, the consequences of the current escalation and the potential US and/or Israeli attack, and suggests some alternative to consider.

What about a movie on Wednesday ?

Wed, 19 Oct. 7:30 PM
NERO’S GUESTS
English, 60 mins
Dir: Deepa Bhatia

SYNOPSIS: About 240,000 farmers have committed suicide in India since 1995, says journalist P. Sainath, Editor-Rural Affairs, The Hindu. But the mainstream media barely reflects either the suicides or the crisis driving them. Nero’s Guests is a story about India’s agrarian crisis and the growing inequality seen through the work of P. Sainath.

Through sustained coverage of the farm crisis, Sainath and his colleagues forced the issue on to the national agenda, compelling a government in denial to take notice and act. Through his writings and lectures, Sainath makes us confront the India we don’t want to see, and provokes us to think who Nero’s Guests are in today’s world. From farms to fashion shows, from college campuses to the countryside,
Nero’s Guests is a film which looks at India’s growing inequality and our own complicity in its creation.

What about a show opening tomorrow ?

What about supporting a cause ?

The month of October is dedicated to raising awaraness on cancer. The HCG is campaigning to break a world record : making a Pink Ribbon made of more than 6000 persons on Sunday 30th October. Make your pledge and be there ! http://www.hcgoncology.com/

What about a gym ?

Not easy to find a good one ... at a reasonable price. They all cost a fortune compared to what we would pay abroad. I find mine in my neighbourhood, Affinity. Decent equipments, good trainers though they don't say 'hi' everyday, ok changing rooms.

What about some music ?

I went to a great concert at the Alliance Française : Akim El Sakameya. A charming mix of Arabo-Andalusian music. Full of joy and energy. Try : http://www.akimelsikameya.com/fr/index.html
