Inaugural Concert for Cadenza 2015 - A Festival of Classical & Folk Music around the World
Recital by Meagan Alphonso Young Pianist & Winner of the Craen Foundation Competition

Meagan Alphonso began her musical studies at the age of 12 with her aunt Regina D’Souza & later with Blossom Mendonca from 2009 and passed her DipABRSM & ATCL with Distinction.  She has since done her Dip ABRSM  winning a local award & also the LTCL winning the Kathleen Taylorsmith prize & the Dinshaw & Piroza Mistry prize & has performed at the Young Talent concert series organized by the Stop Gaps Cultural Academy in 2012. She passed her Grade 6 ABRSM violin exam with high distinction & won the ABRSM best candidate from Mumbai award. She has played the violin with the Bombay Chamber Orchestra (BCO), Indian National Youth Orchestra (INYO) & Indian Youth Orchestra (IYO) in association with the Canadian National Youth Orchestra (CIYO). Meagan  attended summer school for piano at the Chetam’s International Summer School and Festival for Pianists, Manchester and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2013 where she received masterclasses from Fali Pavri, Aaron Shorr, Sam Wong, Jan Kadlubski. She was one of the few selected for a masterclass with Steven Osborne & was  offered admission for the B.Mus course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS).

She was selected as the Young Musician of the Year 2014, an award granted by the Olga and Jules Craen Foundation (OJCF). As part of the OJC–YMOY award, attended summer school in Nice & Paris worked with Pascale Roge & Phillip Entremont, also training from Rena Shereshevskaya & Bruno Rigutto both professors at the prestigious Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. She has worked in the field of music at Fazlani La’ Acadamie Globale, Mehli Mehta Music Foundation & plays for the School of Ballet & Contemporary Dance for their ballet exams in Mumbai. She also plays light music in duos, trios & quartets & has performed at several concerts, one of them being at the Russian Centre for Science & Culture to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the World’s first Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin’s flight into Space. She has also sung for the Living Voices Choir. She also plays the concert pedal harp & has completed her B.A. in Psychology & Sociology with Mumbai University.
